Good thing unemployment is really low now, so they should be able to find something that pays at least the minimum wage somewhere else.Īlso, people at the lowest end of the economy tend not to save much at all, so every additional penny in their pockets generally goes back into the economy in the form of consumer spending. So the minimum wage increases…and their hours get cut? Okay, well they at least have some free hours to work a second or third job or maybe even develop their skillset in the short-term with the new free time and free or low-cost job skills development courses. There simply isn’t enough time in life to get 2nd, 3rd or 4th jobs at paltry wages to scrape by. If someone is working full-time for slave wages, they cannot support themselves let alone a family. And critics of the study noted the researchers did not rule other causes of the reduction in workers’ hours or the number of low-skill jobs in the city.įirst off, there are only 24 hours in a day. The University of Washington study has not yet been peer reviewed, however. So quite frankly, I think a glib, off-the-cuff response is perfect for such a ridiculous assertion.įurthermore, the lone study you cited contains this very important line: It’s a complex issue, that should not be shortshrifted either pro or con in a glib, off-the-cuff manner.Įvery single restaurant in Pasadena has had to contend with the same issue, and every single restaurant isn’t going out of business. Having been in the restaurant business in one form or another for many years now, probably before puberty, it takes quite a bit more than just an “across the board ☒5¢” price increase to cover what is, after July 1, 2017, an effective $2.00/hour raise for all employees…Īnd let’s not overlook the fact that the economic impact of increase minimum wages are not easily quantifiable, and even those that benefit directly from them (i.e., hourly workers) are not always in favor. and Sundays from 5 to 9 p.m.įor more information or reservations, call (818) 991-9560 or visit one is going to derisively mock something, at least make sure to get the facts correct. It’s open Tuesdays through Thursdays from 5 to 9:30 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 5 to 10 p.m. Yum!Ĭafe Bizou is at 30313 Canwood St., Ste. Cafe Bizou also offers plats du jour (plates of the day), like beef Wellington (Wednesdays, $22) and coq au vin (Thursdays, $19).Įither way, be sure to save room for some out-of-this-world dessert, like the flourless chocolate cake with fresh cream and raspberry sauce. And if you want to BYOW (bring your own wine), the corkage fee is just $2. In fact, I found all the dishes to be surprisingly affordable given the restaurant’s excellence and elegance. At a cost of $19.95, the dish is also pocketbook-friendly. It featured oh-so-tender medallions of filet mignon (with spinach and tomato in a brandy cream sauce), tender-not-gamey rack of lamb pieces (accompanied by delicious au gratin potatoes and a mint lamb jus), and tender braised short ribs (with potato pancakes and a burgundy wine sauce).Īnother house favorite is the Parmesan-crusted wild Alaskan sand dabs, which came with mashed potatoes and steamed veggies with lemon butter and capers. The Trio of Meat, a house favorite, was spectacular. Happily, seafood and meat lovers will be just as pleased by Cafe Bizou’s offerings, which are sure to tantalize any palate. I tasted the fresh berry, fig and goat cheese appetizer salad that was to die for-a perfect blend of baby greens and arugula topped with raspberries, spiced candied almonds and a lovely raspberry wine vinaigrette. In addition to house salads, there are also small appetizer salads as well as salad entrees. I can only imagine how wonderful the carrot rosemary soup and lobster bisque must be.Ĭafe Bizou offers something I’ve never seen on any menu thus far: three categories of salads. I started with a lovely French onion soup. Everything I tasted was on point and delicious. When asked what type of food Cafe Bizou serves, Lesure called it “California French fusion.” Personally, I call it amazing.
